As technology has taken the industrial world to more efficient applications and materials over the last 60 years, we too have been able to offer many of these same materials to the creative community.  Staying true to the core beliefs established by our founders, we offer not only excellent products but also the knowledge to get even the absolute novice started in successfully applying our materials to your endeavor.

Bell Forest Products was started in 2001 by Dennis Bell and his son Boone. Being an avid woodworker, Dennis was frustrated with the lack of locally available kiln-dried hardwoods. This was compounded by the fact that he lived in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula surrounded by forests and was unable to obtain lumber for his projects. Some of the world’s best Birdseye maple comes from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In 2003, Bell Forest expanded from Dennis’ workshop into a vacant warehouse in downtown Ishpeming, MI. The business continued to grow and in 2005-2006 Bell Forest went through major changes. We put in a brand new sawmill and started dealing in exotic woods.

Since 2006, Bell Forest has been one of the leading online wood suppliers. We have expanded our selection of figured, domestic, and exotic woods to over 100 species. Bell Forest offers thousands of hand-picked boards, stock sizes, and other products too numerous markets throughout the USA and around the world.

AMACO BrentYellow Electric Potters Wheel with foot pedal

Established in 1919 AMACO is one of the longest-running American manufacturers and innovators of ceramics goods and materials. With their manufacturing facilities based in Indianapolis, IN they manufacture, assemble, sell and warranty their extensive line of products internationally. If you're in the market for glazes, pottery tools, modeling clays, and more give AMACO - Brent a look and see what you can get your hands on.

During my years of working in clay, making pots and art, I have often had ideas that required working outside of “normal” processes. I found that the available “clay tools” did not serve my ideas well. So, out of necessity I would make a tool, or modify an existing one to suit my needs. These new tools quickly became indispensable and were always the first thing to come out of my toolbox. Naturally, I would show these off at a workshop, and as a result, I found that people were interested in buying them!

It didn’t take long to figure out that I couldn’t make a tool for each person that wanted one. I was going to need a little help, and that is how Mudtools was born. I started with the rib. I had already found a material that performed well and actually got better with use (it is self-polishing.) With the material in mind, I designed six shapes that I think cover a lot of what hand builders and throwers need from a rib. Each rib shape is available in four hardnesses from very soft to very firm. You choose the shape and hardness that suits your clay and your working style.

It is my goal to offer you a tool that has a high-performance quality, is pleasing to the hand and eye, and that you find indispensable.

Blacksmithing

Local and Online resources for supplies, materials, tools, and equipment for blacksmithing. As well as videos and reference materials for techniques and processes.

Centaur Forge - Farrier and Blacksmith Supplies

Steve started Blacksmithing at the age of 8.  His Grandfather grabbed him by the ear and pulled him into the shop. Eight smiths worked for his grandfather, all from Europe, no two from the same country.  Not being able to communicate with each other and trying to uphold their nations honor caused them to work very productively.  Each one thought he was the best and knew the best way to do everything. They competed with each other and Steve learned from them all.

In 1954, Steve entered the Navy. Being a smith, they made him an electrician. After the Navy and College, he married and set up a shop for part-time smithing. Immediately he was swamped with work from antique dealers, collectors, etc., and the rest is history.

His son David started at age 5 and now runs the business which has several forges, a 7000+ square foot shop and warehouse, and a gallery of their work. Steve's wife, Shirley & David's wife, Cathy, their children Jonathan and Eli run the office.  Dennis Hunter, employee, and blacksmith for 20 years, assists David in the shop.
